
At least 19 people died on Wednesday in Israeli airstrikes in the Baalbek governorate in eastern Lebanon. The Israeli army had urged residents of the city and two localities to leave the areas before new airstrikes against alleged Hezbollah targets, the Lebanese Shiite militia party.
The Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that eleven people, including three women, died in the attacks in the Salibi farm, while eight people, five of whom were women, died in Badnayel. Three people are in intensive care due to these bombings.
Baalbek, located in the Beqaa Valley, has about 25,000 inhabitants and is home to Roman temples that are considered one of the most important archaeological sites in the Middle East. In 1984, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Lebanese government has reported that, due to the attacks launched by Israel on October 8, 2023, nearly 2,800 people have lost their lives and about 12,900 have been injured. These attacks were in response to rocket fire by Hezbollah in support of Palestinian groups following previous incidents in Israeli territory.
