Investigations Resume in Beirut Port Blast Case

On Friday in Beirut, the investigating judge in the case of the explosion at the port of Beirut, Judge Tarek al-Baitar, summoned two defendants in this case, after more than two months of interruption in his work, reported the judicial source. The court resumed its legal procedures on January 16, presenting charges against ten employees, including senior military and security officials, and set dates for their summons regarding the massive explosion that occurred on August 4, 2020, which resulted in the deaths of more than 220 people and around 6,500 injured.

From the very beginning, local authorities linked the explosion to the stored huge quantities of ammonium nitrate in warehouse No. 12 at the port, without the necessary safety measures in place.
