The command of the Interim Mission of the Organization of United Nations in Southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) needed from the Lebanese authorities an immediate investigation after one of its officers was wounded as a result of an ambush by one of their means of transport on the road leading to Beirut Airport, which had been blocked by party militias. This statement followed after the replacement of the commanding officer completing his mission, who was wounded in the process following a violent attack on the convoy, transporting UN forces at Beirut Airport. In the issued statement, the office of Lebanese President Michel Aoun reported that the president condemned yesterday's attack on the convoy of the Interim Mission of the United Nations in Southern Lebanon in Beirut, stating that the powerful structures 'do not allow any attempt to violate stability and civil peace in the country'.
