Six Killed in Israeli Airstrikes on Beirut

At least six civilians were killed and another 24 injured in two Israeli airstrikes on Beirut, the Lebanese capital, in the early hours of Wednesday, Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health reported. According to an report accessed by the Argentine News Agency (NA), the ministry stated that the toll is preliminary and that rescue teams recovered the bodies at the site, while the identification of the victims is being carried out through DNA tests. Previous reports indicated that the airstrikes targeted the districts of Zkak Blat and Basta Tahta in Beirut. The group Hezbollah, an ally of Iran that controls much of southern Lebanon, launched attacks against Israel on March 2, two days after a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike in which Iran's then-supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed. Subsequently, Israel launched a military campaign against the group, which has included intense bombings of Beirut and its surroundings.
