
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, stated on Monday in Beirut that the primary task of the League is to ensure the immediate cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.
He noted that the situation in Lebanon requires attention and immediate reaction, emphasizing the need to stop the fighting and return the country to peaceful existence.
"We appeal to all sides to act with restraint and refrain from any steps that could increase tension in the region," the Arab League's Secretary-General emphasized.
He also expressed the League's readiness to provide all necessary assistance to Lebanon in resolving arising problems and managing conflicts through dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
Aboul Gheit concluded that the League of Arab States calls on all sides to take responsibility and engage in dialogue to prevent further escalation and harm to the civilian population.
