Mohammed Hammadi, a senior official of Hezbollah, was killed on Tuesday afternoon in the Bekaa region, according to a source from Lebanon's Internal Security Forces. The attack was carried out by "unidentified armed men" who shot at Sheikh Mohammed Hammadi while he was outside his home in the town of Machghara, in eastern Lebanon.
Hammadi suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was immediately taken to the hospital in the nearby town of Sohmor, where he unfortunately died from his injuries. Units of the Lebanese army quickly cordoned off Machghara and established fixed and mobile checkpoints in the western Bekaa towns to initiate a search for the attackers.
So far, Hezbollah has not issued any official statement regarding the assassination. According to security sources, Machghara, located in western Bekaa, has been the target of Israeli airstrikes despite the ceasefire agreement in place in the region.
