Israeli soldiers killed 22 people and injured 124 in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, despite surpassing the deadline for their withdrawal. The ministry also reported that Israeli forces attacked people trying to return to their homes, among which were women, children, and a paramedic.
Among the residents trying to reclaim their territory, many ignored warnings about the insecurity of the area, especially encouraged by the Hezbollah television channel Al Manar. Convoys waving the yellow and green flag of the group were observed. The Israeli army claimed to have fired warning shots prior to the attack but did not confirm casualties. They also detained individuals they considered an "imminent threat."
Although Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in November, Israel argued that the agreement was not being fully implemented. The presence of Israeli soldiers in Lebanon and its duration are uncertain. The ceasefire was mediated by the United States and France, ending 14 months of conflict.
On the other hand, the Lebanese army reported the death of one of its soldiers and the injury of another due to Israeli fire. Hezbollah called on the international community, especially the countries that mediated the agreement, to take responsibility and force the complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon.
