The new government of Lebanon received the trust of parliament. After numerous obstacles and delays, the government was finally formed with Nadim Mikati at the helm as prime minister. The country's president, Michel Aoun, sent a proposal on the composition of the new cabinet to parliament for approval, which was endorsed by a majority of votes.
France, in its turn, expressed its intention to create a special fund called "Lebanon Fort," which will be directed towards supporting the country's reconstruction process following the devastating explosion at the Beirut port in August 2020. The fund will also facilitate reforms necessary for increasing transparency and combating corruption in Lebanon. The country's capital, Beirut, was seriously destroyed as a result of the explosion, leading to numerous casualties and significant material losses.
Prime Minister Nadim Mikati expressed gratitude for the support from France and other partner countries. She emphasized the importance of creating such a fund to ensure the necessary assistance for Lebanon in the realization of the reconstruction and reform programs.
