Israeli fighter jets carried out more than 20 airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Friday night, according to reports from media outlets and security sources in the neighboring country. The National News Agency of Lebanon reported that the attacks began at 9:15 PM and targeted valleys, cities, and villages in southern Lebanon. No details have been provided about possible casualties so far.
Within approximately 30 minutes, Israeli planes bombed wooded areas and valleys in the districts of Tyre, Nabatiyeh, Sidon, and Jezzine in southern Lebanon, according to a Lebanese security source. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that they carried out the attacks against military positions of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, claiming they had identified weapons and rocket launchers belonging to the group at the targeted sites.
"The IDF will continue to operate to eliminate any threat to Israel and will prevent any attempt by Hezbollah to re-establish and rebuild," the IDF stated in a press release. Since November 27, 2024, a ceasefire agreement mediated by the United States and France has been in place to end the clashes between Hezbollah and Israel, stemming from the war in Gaza. However, the Israeli army continues to carry out attacks in southern Lebanon justifying the need to neutralize perceived threats from Hezbollah.
Despite the agreement stipulating the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory, Israel has maintained its presence at five key border points, even after the deadline of February 18.
