The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes and a separate unidentified attack on its peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, calling them a "grave violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701." In a statement, Unifil detailed that its peacekeeping forces observed a series of Israeli airstrikes on Thursday afternoon in its area of operations, specifically in the villages of Marounah, Majadel, and Baraashit. According to information obtained by the Argentine News Agency, the airstrikes occurred while the Lebanese Armed Forces were conducting operations to control unauthorized weapons and infrastructure. One individual fired three shots at the rear of a UN vehicle, although no injuries were reported. In response to this incident, Unifil urged Lebanese authorities to protect its peacekeepers and launch an immediate investigation. At the same time, it warned the Lebanese side against any response that could "further worsen the situation." "These actions are a clear violation of Resolution 1701," Unifil stated, and demanded that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) use the established liaison and coordination mechanisms to prevent incidents.
