An explosion occurred at a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) site near the town of Adchit Qachir in southern Lebanon on Sunday night, resulting in the death of one peacekeeper and another being seriously injured. UNIFIL stated in a statement: «A peacekeeper was tragically killed and another seriously injured following the explosion of an ordnance in a UNIFIL site near Adchit Qachir». The statement added: «We do not yet know the source of the ordnance». The statement continued: «We reiterate our call on all parties to fulfill their obligations under international law and to ensure the safety and security of United Nations personnel and property at all times, including refraining from any acts that may endanger peacekeepers». The statement considered «deliberate attacks against peacekeepers as grave violations of international humanitarian law and Security Council resolution 1701, and may amount to war crimes».
