Lebanese President Michel Aoun stated on Monday that his country can no longer bear any conflicts. The National News Agency of Lebanon reported that during a meeting in Beirut with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Aoun said, "We can no longer bear any conflicts or burdens of any kind. We only want the best for our people, the prosperity of our nation, and the life of our children." He added, "Today we insist on absolute peace and reject any conditions for it except justice and good," emphasizing that Lebanon will act in the interests of its people and regional peace by freeing itself from any occupation or tutelage through its own armed forces, and by rebuilding all that has been destroyed with its own will, capabilities, and the support of friends. The German President began a two-day visit to Lebanon, after which he will travel to Jordan on Wednesday with his wife Elke Büdenbender.
