The lead investigator, Tarek Bitar, has concluded his investigation into the Beirut port explosion case, which has been ongoing for approximately six years, a judicial source told AFP on Monday. The investigation accused around 70 individuals, including politicians and security leaders. It was later revealed that officials at various levels were aware of the risks of storing the material but took no action. Since 2023, the investigation, which killed more than 220 people on August 4, 2020, has been mired in political deadlock. Hezbollah led a campaign to remove Bitar, who was later besieged by dozens of lawsuits demanding his removal from the case.
