In a statement issued this Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that its Air Force carried out the killing of Mustafa Ahmad Shahadi, deputy commander of Hezbollah's elite Radwan Forces, in the Lebanese city of Nabatieh. According to the IDF, Shahadi, who was identified as a target through intelligence information, was involved in several terrorist attacks against Israel.
The IDF explained that the operation was part of Israel's efforts to undermine the Radwan Forces' capabilities to 'plan and execute terrorist activities against IDF troops and communities on the northern border.' In particular, a project to 'occupy' the Galilee region in northern Israel was mentioned as one of the plans that Shahadi was promoting.
According to the Israeli military, Shahadi was in charge of Radwan Forces' operations during the fighting in Syria between 2012 and 2017, in addition to overseeing the activities of the forces in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah, for its part, decided not to make any statements regarding the announcement made by Israel.
