At least five people were killed on Sunday in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli due to a building collapse, according to official media, as rescue teams continue to search for survivors. This is the second such incident in two weeks. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun ordered emergency services to 'mobilize to assist in rescue operations' and provide shelter for 'residents of the collapsed building and adjacent buildings that were evacuated as a precaution'. The official National News Agency reported an 'old building collapsed' in the Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood, one of Tripoli's poorest areas, confirming '8 people rescued' while '5 bodies, including a child and an elderly woman, were pulled from the rubble'. Authorities evacuated neighboring residential buildings 'fearing they might collapse'.
