President of Lebanon Michel Aoun is heading to Saudi Arabia on Monday for his first foreign trip since his election two months ago. According to the presidential press service... The purpose of the visit is not specified, however, this step marks the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries after a period of tension. In 2017, Saudi Arabia recalled its ambassador from Beirut in protest against what it called "interference by foreign powers" in Lebanon's internal affairs.
"The purpose of my visit is to extend the discussion of solutions to all pressing issues that may arise before us to ensure the security and stability of Lebanon and provide for our mutual development and prosperity," the president Aoun stated before departure.
President of Lebanon also expressed gratitude to the Saudi royal family, government, and people of Saudi Arabia for their support of Lebanon and its people during various periods of its history.
