BRUSSELS, Reuters — European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday that the European Union plans to provide 100 million euros ($115.85 million) in humanitarian aid to Lebanon, following a phone call with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. Von der Leyen stated in a post on the X platform: «We must ensure the sovereignty and stability of Lebanon for its people.» She clarified that the EU has already delivered 40 tons of supplies to Lebanon and intends to arrange more humanitarian flights. Von der Leyen expressed the EU's solidarity with Lebanon and its people and welcomed the decision to ban all military operations by Hezbollah.
