The United Nations announced on Tuesday that at least 30,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon due to Israeli shelling and airstrikes in various areas, particularly in the south of the country and southern Beirut. According to UNHCR spokesperson Babar Baloch, speaking at a press conference in Geneva, «there have been reports of large-scale displacement in several parts of southern Lebanon, as well as in the Bekaa region and southern Beirut, after Israel issued evacuation warnings for residents of more than 53 Lebanese villages and carried out intensive airstrikes» in the mentioned areas. He added: «Estimates as of yesterday (Monday) indicate that at least 30,000 people have been accommodated and registered in collective shelters». Furthermore, a much larger number slept in their cars on the sides of the roads. In turn, the regional director of the UN World Food Program, Samer Abdel Jaber, said in Cairo that the number of displaced people will increase significantly. Israel has been carrying out an intensive bombing campaign against Lebanon since Monday, targeting «Hezbollah» in response to strikes on Israeli territory. According to official figures released on Monday, Israeli airstrikes have resulted in 52 deaths.
