Beirut, Reuters — Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs Hanin al-Said said on Tuesday that Lebanon is preparing for the possibility that hundreds of thousands of displaced people may not return to their homes in the long term due to Israeli airstrikes and evacuation orders. These statements came after Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the army would destroy all homes along the Lebanese border and prevent 600,000 residents who fled southern Lebanon from returning to their villages. Since March 2, when the armed Lebanese group Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the regional conflict, more than one million people have been displaced from their homes and 1,200 others have been killed in Israeli airstrikes.
