Less than a year after the devastating explosion at the Port of Beirut, the UN coordinator on humanitarian issues in Lebanon, Janin Hennis-Plasschaert, expressed serious concerns about the current humanitarian crisis in the country.
"Lebanon has become a place where people are experiencing multiple crises simultaneously," she stated in an interview. "Urgent measures need to be taken to provide people with essential life-saving assistance."
She noted that misfortunes such as political instability, economic collapse, and the COVID-19 pandemic have severely worsened the already complex situation in the country. "Every day more people find themselves in the risk zone, facing dire conditions," she added.
Hennis-Plasschaert also called on the international community to pay more attention to Lebanon and provide essential assistance to address the humanitarian crisis in the country.
