Since last year, around 14,000 people have been injured in Lebanon, and approximately 10 percent of them are children. Many minors have suffered amputations, burns, and have experienced situations that have left deep scars in their lives. The violence in the region has resulted in the deaths of more than 100 children in the last six weeks, in addition to leaving hundreds of minors injured.
In the conflicts in Lebanon, Israel has carried out numerous attacks on homes and residential areas. Doctors report that more and more children are being affected by this violence. In a recent attack on November 13, at least 78 people lost their lives and 122 were injured in a series of intense attacks by Israel in various areas of Lebanon, especially in the south, center, and east of the Mediterranean country.
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health confirmed that many of the victims were in the central region of Mount Lebanon, where at least 24 people died, as well as in areas in the south and the south of Nabatiyeh, among others. Since the onset of violence with Hezbollah in early October 2023, it is estimated that at least 3,365 people have died and 14,344 have been injured in Lebanon due to the constant attacks by Israel.
According to Lebanese authorities, at least 216 Lebanese children and girls have lost their lives, along with 653 women and 192 healthcare professionals since the start of the violence. Additionally, it is reported that 88 primary healthcare centers, 40 hospitals, and 244 ambulances have suffered damage from the attacks.
The escalation of the conflict has led Israel to intensify its bombings in residential areas in Lebanon, with devastating results. The situation is further aggravated considering that since September, more than 1.2 million people have been displaced due to the violence in the region.
Amid this situation, UNICEF has provided psychological and community support to more than 10,000 children and caregivers in Lebanon, aware of the severe impact that violence has on the mental health of minors. The organization has called for a ceasefire to protect children from the ongoing conflict.
